synopsis:

It’s 1999. Beyoncé is still part of the greatest triad of all time. Seventeen-year-old Britney Spears is hiking eyebrows and skirts across the world with salacious lyrics inspiring rebellion and titillation in other seventeen-year-olds.

In the midst of all this stimulation, all the way in Nairobi, Kenya, Polly Tayebwa spends her school days mostly mute, and nights dancing to the latest songs in front of her bedroom mirror. Long-lost Auntie and Eternal Cool Gal, Zelda Jenkins, 43, arrives at her family’s doorstep to collect Polly and return to Los Angeles where Polly will enroll in a Performing Arts high school. Building a bond across generations is going to take an equal amount of pain and gain. The good thing? Polly and Zelda have something to teach each other.
